WordPress vs. Wix vs. Squarespace

I’ve been big proponent of WordPress for a few years now – and not a fan of Wix, Squarespace or any other drag & drop oriented service that claims to be quick & easy. Now, thanks to WP Site Care, we have proof that WordPress, despite its reputation for complexity, is easier to use. In fact, it’s a LOT easier to use (see the infographic below).
A quick aside: I helped a couple of clients migrate from Squarespace in the past year. Both felt they had hit the limits of the platform and the only thing going for Squarespace was the fact that their sites looked good. One was stymied by the poor SEO, while the other needed a fully featured shopping cart – both are things that Squarespace is mediocre at. Both clients are happier and more productive – much more productive – on WordPress.
On an opposite note, a different client chose to follow in-house marketing advice from an employee who had no experience with SEO or web marketing. They decided to move from WordPress to Wix and within 2 days of launching the new site, they fell from #1 on Google for their own business name. Two months later, they returned to WordPress and reclaimed the top ranking for their own name. That’s a hard way to learn that Wix absolutely sucks for SEO (not to mention that in 2015 Google was dropping Wix sites from their index until Wix begged them to reverse course).
